Art

Choose a subject:

Artists at Front Lawn will be engaged, inspired and challenged by studying a range of classical and contemporary artists.  They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own ‘masterpieces’. We will reflect on how art contributes to shaping our culture and creativity.

Content and Sequencing

  • Art, along with most Foundation subjects, is linked with the overarching whole school topic and the individual topic of each class.
  • Topics are ‘designed’ with relevance in mind.  In Painting, children begin by looking at classical portrait and landscape artists and then move on to surrealism and abstract art.
  • Art is taught in a Research, Skills, Plan, Make, Evaluate sequence.

Dashboards – These provide an in depth look at the artists we have selected for the children to study. Opportunities are provided for the children to respond to the art and share their opinions, likes and dislikes.

More Able Artists

The more able Artists at Front Lawn are offered a ‘creative trip each term’.  They have attended a local art gallery and taken part in a workshop, visited the Tate Modern in London and worked with a local artist on a project.

Assessment

Art is assessed each Term.  Teachers identify who is exceeding expectations and children who are not meeting the expected standard.  Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close eye on them the following term.

As an artist we love exploring the techniques used by famous artists and using them to create our own masterpieces.
